There are many other useful sources of information on deer
and deer hunting local to the Kinzua Quality Area as well as statewide:
- The Allegheny National Forest (www.fs.fed.us/r9/allegheny)
contributes the largest area in the Kinzua Quality Area: its biologists and
foresters are very active in management and data collection on the Kinzua
Quality Area. The Allegheny National Forest also maintains the access
roads in its portion of the area and provides information on roads that may
be closed during hunting season
- The Allegheny National Forest Visitor's Bureau (www.allegheny-vacation.com)
contains information on local restaurants and motels, and other recreational
opportunities in and around the Kinzua Quality Area
- The Bradford Water Authority (www.bradfordwater.com)
is one of the cooperators in the KQDC project, contributing lands that form
the northeastern portion of the Kinzua Quality Area
- The Pennsylvania Bureau of Forestry (www.dcnr.state.pa.us/forestry)
has a comprehensive white-tailed deer management program and interacts often
with the KQDC
- The Kane Hardwood Company (www.collinswood.com)
, a division of Collins Pine, a private timber company, is another
contributor of forestland to the Kinzua Quality Area. Kane Hardwoods
administers the coupon program for DMAP Unit 135 on the Kinzua Quality Area
- The Pennsylvania Game Commission (www.pgc.state.pa.us)
regulates white-tailed deer hunting, issues all licenses for harvesting
deer, and is a great source of information on all matters related to hunting
in Pennsylvania
- The Quality Deer Management Association (www.qdma.com)
is a national organization with much expertise and advice/information on
managing for quality deer and quality deer.
- The Sand County Foundation (www.sandcounty.net)
is a not-for-profit organization that promotes sustainable use of forest
resources, built upon the ideas and philosophy of the "father of wildlife
management" in North America, Aldo Leopold. SCF is the organization
that promotes the KQDC program and provides much of the funding needed to
run the program.
